Associated Festival: Beacons Announces First Round Of Acts

Our associated festival, Beacons, is back! The cutting-edge music and arts festival will once again be taking place in the picturesque setting of the Funkirk Estate in Skipton this August. Check out the act line-up so far below, which features 25 of the acts that will be performing this summer. At least 50 more will be revealed in the coming months!

Karen Gwyer – Wednesday 27th February

We’re excited to see Michigan-born London resident Gwyer playing the Waiting Room on 27th February with support from M’a Tuer.

Gwyer first came to the fore last year with I’ve Been You Twice, released on patten’s experimental tape and digital label Kaleidoscope. Recently announced as one of the featured artists on No Pain In Pop’s soon to drop compilation The Bedroom Club II.

Tropics – Wednesday 30th January

UK producer Tropics will be playing a free show with his live band this Thursday as part of his first tour of 2013.

“Signed to Planet Mu, Southampton based electronic artist Tropics is 25 and multi-talented. Influenced by the Arthur Russell and Pink Floyd, Christopher Ward, aka Tropics, grew up surrounded by music, composing his first album whilst at uni writing a dissertation on synesthesia. His Popup Cinema EP translates the progressive disco sounds of the 80′s into current electronic soundscapes.” i-D magazine

Midnight a Go Go – Saturday 26th January

Midnight A Go-Go returns to The Waiting Room on Saturday 26 January with its unique blend of all things 80s.

The monthly club night celebrates one of the most culturally distinct and innovative musical eras in history. It pays homage to the decade that gave birth to MTV and saw subsequent rise of a pop culture that mixed Hip Hop with Pop. It was a time when music, fashion, movie stars and advertising collided to create a look and sound that lives on and is copied by new artists today.

Wolf Alice – Monday 11th February

Norht London youngsters Wolf Alice are set to play an intimate club NME show on Monday 11th February at The Waiting Room – The date her new single “Fluffy” is released.
The track premiered on NME this week and has been received with open arms. Musically the single has more than a hint of Elastica about it, and is possibly their best song yet.

Blackboard Jungle – Friday 25th January

Phonica Records presents an all star line up on Friday 25th January, with Lee Gamble (PAN), Helena Hauff (Wild Oats) and Conor Thomas (Faktion) spinning records.

As one of 2012’s most celebrated producers, Lee Gamble doesn’t need much introduction. He has provided us with some of the most interesting dance music to be released in the past year (via the equally inspired PAN label) and anyone who has been lucky enough to see him DJ before will know that this is not your standard set.
