Opal Tapes Vs Public Information – Friday 28th June

Posted June 27, 2013

Tickets: £5 Adv

BleeD present a meeting of minds between two of the most vital record labels currently operating in the UK.

OPAL TAPES | have released a dizzying array of cassette and digital releases of late, bringing names such as Lumigraph, 1991, Prostitutes, Huerco S and Tuff Sherm to wider attention. No over-arching aural aesthetic pervades, but a consistent off-kilter quality remains present throughout, thanks to the keen curatorial eye of label head Stephen ‘Basic House’ Bishop. Their line-up for the inaugral label showcase includes ‘cryptic tape melt murk’ producer Wanda Group and Basic House himself.

PUBLIC INFORMATION | Infused with the pioneering spirit of the Radiophonic Workshop, Public Information has emerged in the last two years or so as a force to be reckoned with in the experimental, dare we say, dance hinterlands, although their vision is not limited to such primal endeavours. Finds such as No UFO’s, Austin Cesear and Acteurs have characterised the label as true magpies of the electronic world, with more well-worn names such as Ekoplekz and Chris Carter also making it a home from home. Forthcoming PI artist IVVVO, who already has an Opal Tapes release under his hat, will be playing a headline DJ set tonight, with Nochexxx also playing a special A/V all-dubplates set.

Midnight A Go-Go returns to The Waiting Room on Saturday 22 June with its unique blend of all things 80s and a special guest DJ slot from Cymbals.

It’s resident DJs – Matthew and Christine – play the finest 80s electro, pop, classic hip hop. The result is a hazy sunset filled journey that takes you from Twin Shadow to Simple Minds via Prince and Grandmaster Flash.

Selling out shows before they’d even released a single, MONEY have drawn devoted fans to strange, beautiful and passionate gigs around Manchester over the last year or so, with much mythologised shows in the Sacred Trinity Church and a crumbling building known as the Bunker: an abandoned factory in the shadows of Strangeways. Here they created their own sense of beauty in the void, stating “celebration is at the heart of doom”.
