Inviting comparison with Scott Walker, Marc Almond and Billy Mackenzie, London-based composer David Aird has carved out a unique space in which tense rhythms scuttle into thick clouds of electronic noise and torch songs are overwhelmed by bleak introspection.

Some Truths

Hackney’s Ralph Cumbers (aka Bass Clef) conjures hypnotic grooves via the science of raw analogue synthesis. His live sets are physically demanding demonstrations of human-patchbay synergy.

Following a string of successful parties at The Waiting Room over recent months the Reach Up crew are back on July 12 with esteemed resident DJ Andy Smith and this time round Rinse FM dubstep pioneer Plastician digging the crates for those 70s and 80s gems.

Having remixed MIA, Snoop Dogg, Skream and more Plastician knows good music when he hears it and as the first dj to give radio play to Joker and Emalkay he has a reputation for shaping the future of dance music culture. For this special night however he’s looking back and throwing down some of the tunes that paved the way. Expect party starting funk, boogie and 80s house heat with a splash of balearic joy!

Julie Hawk Single Launch (Hosted By Ligers) – Wednesday 3rd July

Inspired by the likes of St. Vincent, Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush, Julie Hawk, originally from Ireland, is a multi-instrumentalist pulling up the London unsigned scene by its roots.

In 2012, Hawk supported renowned singer-songwriter, Benjamin Francis Leftwich and The Magic Numbers’ Michele Stodart in London, and made her first festival appearance at Hop Farm.

On Wednesday she launches her new single ‘Take Off Your Suit’ here at The Waiting Room with a free show. Watch the video below.
